Pockets

Pocket Variations (1 - 17 by Petra)
  1. Stick small page (=8 1/2 x 11") onto big page (12x12") upright, leaving one upright side (the one on the side where more of the big paper shows) open to shove in your brochures. As they are likely to disappear completely, you'll need a pulley on them - I used a diecut letter (part of page title) on a paper strip. (=Chichester LO)
  2. As above but leaving the outer edge open. You need to attach some sort of tag with fibre or ribbon and make it part of the LO, maybe saying “pull me” to make people aware of that pocket. (=Clandon House Gardens LO)
  3. Fix eyelet in corner of background paper and in corner of brochure. Connect with beadchain and slip brochure behind LO. (=St Richard LO)
  4. Use small page on big page horizontal across the bottom, leaving the top open. Stick brochures in upright so that they peep out. It’s helpful to glue the pocket down in the middle to help brochures stay upright as part of LO. You can add further direction to “wobbly” brochures by printing journal on vellum and fixing it across the top of the brochure with brads. (=Hatchlands LO)
  5. Use small page on big page and slice open at a suitable place of the design; then slip brochure in. May need a pulley, depending on how deep the pocket turns out. I used the stone arch paper from the Hearth & Home kit (jr I think) and cut above the arch. (=Clandon Church LO)
  6. Cut a piece of paper that is about ½” each side wider than your brochure and fix it with double-sided tape, brads or similar, leaving top open. Slip brochure in as part of LO. Fix photo or journal on the pocket. (
  7. As above using bigger piece add contents list for multiple brochures. If there are many and quite heavy, add crossed fibre or ribbon ties across the top section of the brochures, fixing the ties both sides with brads. You can dangle a charm from the junction point. (=Fishbourne Roman Palace LO)
  8. Fix a big photo using strong tape or brads, leaving top open and slip brochure behind.
  9. Fix brochure with photo flips (you can use a journal or fix a not so important photo underneath, too). (=Chichester Cathedral LO)
  10. If nothing important on backside of brochure, simply glue down on a matte. Multiple brochures can be attached inside each other with ribbon or fibre spine ties. (=Fishbourne Roman Palace Gardens LO)
  11. Use half a small page (cut lengthwise) at bottom of big page, printing journal onto one side. Fix both sides and centre line. Use the side opposite the journal for brochure. Add a matted photo or postcard onto the pocket for more stability higher up on the brochure. Edges can be decorated with brads… (=Clandon House inside LO)
  12. Use a big cut/slide through on the main page (you need to fix the actual pocket onto the back of the LO, not to be seen). Depending on placement and depth you can show or hide the brochures. Hidden ones need a pulley again. (=Bluebell LO)
  13. Use two pieces of fairly wide ribbon stretched across the brochure (this shows most of the brochure) fixing the top one only to the right and left of the brochure (slip through) and the bottom one all along the bottom (slip in). (LO not yet done)
  14. As above using slightly smaller ribbon and fixing it along the top and bottom of a postcard or photo that’s wider than the brochure, so that the ribbon sticks out from the picture about ½” each side. Place arrangement on top of brochure and fix top ribbon to the right and left of brochure but bottom ribbon along the bottom (easiest with brads). (=Petworth House inside LO)
  15. The same (13 + 14) also works with strips of cardboard – I’ve just done it with the embossed strips on the Tuscany jr paper that look like carvings. (=Knole House inside LO; not yet shown)
  16. Mini pocket cut out from paper, fold over the edges and fix edges to LO. This gives a bit of depth and is good for little goodies, visit cards etc. Decorate pocket with anything you can think of… (=Petworth House LO)
  17. Create a book. Fix several brochures on top of each other, topped with a small sheet onto which goes a LO. Punch holes into top and bottom left corner of brochures and measure up to put the same holes into main page and top sheet. Use eyelets in top sheet and main page. Use pretty ribbon to secure the whole lot and tie on top, so that you can page through it. Place your LO on the small sheet with a “… Book” label, and your title on the strip of main page beside. (=Tower Book LO, not yet shown)
